Professor Hanson Checks In

I can think of no better way to express what I am thinking these days than to refer you all to a great piece written by Victor Davis Hanson of the Hoover Institute at Stanford.  I see these 10 thoughts as a good jumping off point for discussion over the next several months as we contemplate the political circus we have just come through, the dangers that we face from evil enemies,  and what lies ahead not only for our country but for Western Civilization as a whole. Read this, chew it over for awhile, discuss with friends, and read the things you need to read to maybe catch up.  Best wishes.

Worse Than I Thought

Oy!  Check this out here.  Sadly, this mirrors what I have experienced from some of my own personal conversations, and are sort of like, ya know, the man in the street interviews held periodically by Jay Leno.  Twelve intelligent people without a clue when it came to important questions, but they sure did well on the $150K clothing deal.  Egad!

Victory is At Hand

For all intents and purposes, we have won the war for Iraq.  All that remains now is to implement the gradual withdrawal of American combat troops according to the plan agreed upon between the Iraqi government and US Forces on the ground.  As Hugh Hewitt says in his recent article here, no one, except for those crazies still infected with Bush Derangement Syndrome, can be unhappy with the results that have ocurred over the last year.  Certainly there are still some pockets of unrest within and without, (so what else is new in the world and within the USA) but how can we fail to understand the remarkable achievement of our military in this monumental effort.  A much-maligned president George Bush has kept us safe for seven years from further attack, removed and disposed of a hideous and evil dictator, protected our great allies in the region, and insured that a democracy will soon flourish in the midst of the Middle East.  We owe him and our brave troops a great debt.  History will look kindly on this effort and the brave sacrifice of thousands of American warriors.

Unraveling and Unmasking

The appalling actions of the last week by misguided "opponents" of Proposition 8 on the CA ballot are indicative of hard-left disingenousness.  If people believe the constitution is wrong, they have the right to change or amend it by one method only.  They can gather the appropriate amount of signatures and place the issue on the ballot for a VOTE!  In two instances over the last eight years, the people of California have voted overwhelmingly to affirm that marriage is a sacred act between a man and a woman.  The only reason the issue was brought to the ballot initiave process for the second time was because the California court system decided to take matters into its own hands and invalidate by a 4-3 vote the will of the people.  Once again, this is yet another case of disaster and disruption when the courts decide to take it upon themselves to legislate from the bench, thumbing their noses at the people and subverting the constitutional process.
The hideous actions of the demonstrators, refusing to accept the will of the people, are so outrageous that even the main stream media is compelled to cover their threatening and dangerous behavior.   The new president-elect could show true leadership by condemning these actions and affirming the principle that makes America great, the rule of law.  Read Matt Barber's column on this.

Praying for America

Let us pray.  Almighty awewome God, You who created the Universe, who hung the stars in the heavens, we humble ourselves today and ask that You forgive our sins, for they are many.  As a nation that was created and founded by those who love You, we have strayed from Your principles with our political correctness, afraid to speak the truth too often in the public square.  We have remained silent too long.  Forgive us God for not being more bold when You have called us to be the light in a dark world.  We thank You for all the good things You have provided for us.  We thank You for the liberty we have, a right we claim from You, and we are grateful that we live in this nation where we can openly disagree on so many things without being killed for those opinions.

Today, Lord, we find ourselves with a president-elect who is not experienced in the affairs of the world, has never managed anything in his lifetime, and who supports policies and positions that are in direct violation of Your Word.  In a short time, he will assume the office of President of the United States and become the commander in chief.  Help us, Lord to stand strong in the face of what may be coming our way.  We admit that we do not understand why You have allowed this to happen, but we accept that Your will be done.  To that end, we ask that you protect and counsel this young man who will become our leader.  Please God, give him the wisdom that can only come from You.  Help him to choose wisely those who would surround him and give him advice on how to govern.  We pray for our troops who are in the dark places of the world, protecting the freedom that we treasure so greatly and bringing liberty to those who desperately seek it.  Lord, keep them safe and bring them home to their families, but Lord, let them not come home dishonored.  We pray that this young man who has ascended to the highest office in the land, will understand what victory in war means.  We pray that he will understand the struggle between good and evil, and that there are those who wish to accomplish evil and kill Americans wherever they may be.  We pray for the nation of Israel, Your chosen people, surrounded by enemies who wish to destroy her, that you would raise up a strong leader in that nation who would not be afraid to act defensively.

Help us God to keep our heads up today and be the people You want us to be in the world.  You have commanded us to love our enemies.  We confess how hard that is and how often we fail at it.  We need you, Lord.  We understand that these will be times of great trials, that Your principles will be trampled on.  We ask You to raise up strong leaders who will stand in the gap now.  We ask for Your great mercy on this nation, that You hear our prayers and heal our land.  We pray this in the name of Jesus.  Amen

The Dimensions of Obama

As we head into the final days before Americans choose a president, the man who will be commander-in-chief of our military in a time of war, the man who will be CEO of the largest beurocracy in the world, and for all intents and purposes, the man who will become the leader of the free world, it is my fervent prayer that those who have decided already to vote for Senator Obama simply because they are "tired" of Republican "rule" and want a "change" will re-think this decision and consider the possibility that they just may have been profoundly duped.  If you were born before 1980, ask yourself these simple questions:  "Has there ever been a candidate for the office of President of the United States that you have ever known so little about?"  (Not referring here to the narrative struck by the candidate himself in his two egoistic tomes).  "Has there ever been a candidate for the office of the President of the United States with abolutely no record of any substantial accomplishment that would qualify him for this office?"  "Do I really want to entrust my safety and security to a man who has been wrong time after time on issues that affect our national security, who would embolden our enemies and endanger our faithful allies in dark places of the world?"

If you were born after 1980, do you understand the difference between fixing something that is broken and total transformation?

I urge you to read this great piece by Mark Steyn, the author of America Alone, a book btw that may change your perspective on seeing American exceptionalism as something that is to be treasured.  Our way of life is on the verge of being threatened for a long time to come.  I hope you all understand what is at stake.  Here is the Mark Steyn piece.
